Jitra
Major battle site littered with pillboxes strewn in a
wide area from Jitra down to Alor Setar. The pillbox is
used to protect Alor Setar airfield but in December
1941, all of these were submerged under water due to
tropical rains and it hampered British 11th Indian
Division defences when Japanese started their attack
from Thai-Malay borders.
Most of British forward position at Changlun and Asun
were quickly overrun by Japanese and soon they developed
a fast deadly attack on the frontal side of Jitra
defence lines. Most of left and right flank of British
were isolated and few of these men manage to evade
captured. At this stage, Japanese use tank to penetrate
British anti-tank roadblocks. British leave Jitra in a
hurry and leave so much ammunition, equipment to
Japanese and leave Alor Setar airfield open to Japanese.
